ESSO Speaks on the EP after the jump:

It’s pretty amazing to me how this project came together, and how it’s grown to become something completely different than what I intended it to be. In a lot of ways, this project to me is the end of an era. I was definitely in a different state of mind when I was recording these records, and was thinking different musically than I’m thinking now. The beauty of this project though, is that I think it gives you a really good idea of who I am, the type of person I am, and the type of shit I go through and think about. You can also see on certain records the progression starting from where I was to where I’m going.

I’ve gotten a lot of flack in interviews for the “Young & Ignorant” movement from people that think I’m promoting stupidity or immaturity. I always seem to find a way to piss people off one way or another. First it was the Anti-Backpack (which is still somehow misunderstood to this day almost a year later), and then it was Young & Ignorant. So before I have to deal with being misunderstood again, let me explain to you what Young & Ignorant means to me.

Young & Ignorant represents a counterculture of people who want nothing more than to live their lives on their terms according to how they see the world. You got a Masters Degree in Psychology but all you want out of life is to be a Top Chef? That’s Young & Ignorant. You go to work everyday just so you can have money to pursue the dream that everyone tells you is unrealistic? That’s Young & Ignorant. You wear a tee to the club even when you know its Marquee and there’s no way you’re gettin in just so you can yell at the promoter and the doorman? That’s Young & Ignorant.

I’m ignorant to what other people expect of me, I’m ignorant to their rules, their morals and their standards. My only goal in life is to live my life on my terms and not have to answer to anybody but myself when it’s all said and done. Now if that makes me a horrible person, then so fucking be it. But if that’s all you want out of life also, then we already have something in common.
